    .id is the ccTLD for Indonesia. It is managed by Perkumpulan Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia (PANDI).[1]

    Rules and Restrictions

    The .id domain is an Open Use ccTLD with no geographic restrictions at the top level. Several second-level domains are restricted or reserved for specific uses by Indonesian citizens or business entities. Others are open for registration.[2] As of February 2023, the domain had approximately 726,000 active registrations.[3]

    Naming a Domain must meet the following terms and conditions:

    • Normative Name: Domain Name is the same as, part of, or abbreviation of the Registrant/business/entity/organization's name, as stated in the incorporation documents or amendments thereto from the Domain Name user applicant;
    • Brand Name/Trademark/Copyright/IPR: Domain Name related to the brand/trademark/copyright/other IPR of the Registrant/business/entity/organization as proved by a registration proof or brand/trademark/copyright/other IPR's certificate;
    • Related Names: Domain Names related to the name of product, services, sections/divisions/units, or working/training program of the Registrant/business/entity/organization;
    • Name Representative/Agent/Distributor: Domain Name related to the name of the Representative, Agency, Distributor of the Registrant/business/entity/organization as proved by an official appointment letter of the Representative/Agent/Distributor.[4]

    Second-level Domains

    There are 13 second-level domains associated with .id, and all of it are:

    • .co.id: reserved for Indonesian businesses. To register, you must provide any of the following Indonesian documents: SIUP - License for businesses to trade goods and services in Indonesia. TDP - Company Registration Certificate. AKTA - Article of Association. NPWP - Tax Identification Number
    • .web.id: for personal websites and informal businesses (local citizens and foreigners). The official requirements include an ID card or passport.
    • .my.id: for personal websites and blogs. It's available for individuals (local citizens and foreigners) and legal entities.
    • .biz.id: for small and medium-sized businesses. It's available for individuals (local citizens and foreigners) and legal entities.
    • .go.id: Used for government agencies. You have to ask permission from Komdigi with the condition for government
    • .or.id: Used for non-profit organizations. You need to make apply for domain creation application and domain administrator's KTP.
    • .ac.id: Used for educational institutions. This domain is usually used in Indonesian colleges, you need to apply for domain creation and domain administrator's KTP.
    • .sch.id: Used for schools. This domain is usually for schools in Indonesia, You need to apply for domain creation and domain administrator's KTP.
    • .mil.id: Used for military agencies. You must be part of the Indonesian military and request the commander-in-chief to register the domain.
    • .desa.id: Used for villages. You have to ask permission from Komdigi with the condition for villages.[5]

    Characters

    • Domain Names can be in the form of Latin and non-Latin alphabets and numbers as well as hyphens.
    • The Domain Name can have a maximum of 63 characters. The full Domain Name, including sub-level Domains and dots (.), the maximum is 253.
    • Hyphen characters may not be used at the beginning or end, nor as the third or fourth character in the sequence of a Domain Name.
