    Volker Alexander Greimann is the Head of Policy and Compliance for the Team Internet Domains division. He previously served as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel at Key-Systems, an ICANN-accredited registrar, and led the legal team of the registrar divisions of CentralNic as well as the group’s abuse teams.

    He is involved in various ICANN policy working groups as a member of the Registrar Stakeholder Group (RrSG), most notably the Expedited Policy Development Process (ePDP) for gTLD Registration Data. He served as a councillor on the GNSO Council from 2012 until 2016, including two years as Contracted Parties House (CPH) Vice-Chair, and was re-elected to the GNSO Council in 2025.

    From 2016 to 2019, he was a non-executive board member at Nominet and is currently a member of Nominet’s UK Registry Advisory Council (UK RAC), the advisory body representing UK internet stakeholders and providing policy guidance to the .UK registry.

    In April 2017, he was appointed as a director of the managing board of KeyDrive SA. Following KeyDrive’s merger with CentralNic, he became Head of Legal for the CentralNic Registrar Division. He currently sits on the supervisory board of SK-NIC.

    Volker joined the Key-Systems team in July 2008 as General Counsel. He is responsible for ICANN and registry policy management, contractual and legal compliance, contractual work, litigation management and providing legal and policy advice to the company. He leads the abuse teams of Key-Systems, Instra, InternetBS, Hexonet and Moniker.

    Volker also served as member-elected Non-Executive Director on the board of Nominet from April 27, 2016, until the AGM in June 2019.[1]

    Volker was Secretary of ICANN's Registrar Stakeholder Group from 2011 to 2012. He represented European registrars on the registrar negotiation team for the 2013 RAA. He joined the GNSO Council in August 2012 during the 45th (Toronto) ICANN meeting as an elected representative of the Registrar Stakeholder Group and held that seat until ICANN 57 (Hyderabad). From 2013 to 2016 he first served as Vice-Chair and finally as co-chair of the GNSO Council.[2] He was re-elected to the council in january 2025. He continues to be active in ICANN policy development in various working groups and review teams such as the RDS (Whois) RT2 and the EPDP for gTLD Registration Data Policy.

    Volker is a graduate of the legal faculty of the University of Trier, having studied Law and Japanese studies. He is an alumnus of a post-graduate scholarship program of the German Academic Exchange service that took him to Japan for 2 years. He is a fully qualified and licensed German lawyer and has working experience in both German law offices and law offices in Tokyo, Japan.[3] He has lived in various countries including Japan, the Netherlands, the USA and Canada and speaks German, English, Dutch and Japanese fluently.
