The Brazilian Internet Governance Forum (FIB).[1] is a national, annual multistakeholder event that brings together diverse actors to discuss Internet dilemmas faced in Brazil and, also, globally. Its initial event took place in 2011, and it serves as a platform for dialogue on Internet governance, digital policy, inclusion, and human rights [2]. The event is organized by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee CGI.br [3], a globally recognized body in the Internet governance landscape.
Purpose and Format
FIB provides a space for open, inclusive, and democratic participation across the different stakeholder groups: government, private sector, technical and academic communities, and civil society. The forum facilitates the exchange of ideas, concerns, and best practices regarding Internet policy and development in Brazil [4].
The event is guided by and promotes the 10 Principles of Internet Governance and Use [5].
All session proposals accepted each year are presented on the FIB homepage [6], and the themes, which vary each year, can also be found by checking the FIB website [7].
Organizers
The forum is convened and facilitated by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee CGI.br, which is composed of representatives from government, private sector, academia, civil society, and the technical community [8]. CGI.br is recognized internationally for its role in managing the .br ccTLD [9], setting Internet policy guidelines in Brazil.
