Internet Iceland Ltd. (ISNIC) is the registry operator for Iceland's .is ccTLD.[1] It was originally formed in 1987, though it was incorporated in 1995 through a merger of two organizations, SURIS and ICEUUG.[2]

The very first .is domain, hi.is (the domain of University of Iceland) was registered on December 11, 1986, making it one of the oldest still-active domains in the world.[3]
RIX
ISNIC also operates the Reykjavik Internet Exchange (RIX), for domestic IP interconnections in Iceland. RIX helps increase the capacity and speed of packet exchange in Iceland.[4]
